How AI helps Contracts Managers

AI is good at getting a first draft down, putting events in order and summarising long documents in plain English. Where to be careful
- Notices and time limits. Form, content, recipient and method of service all depend on your contract, and under NEC4 a late notice can lose you the claim. Check your contract and take advice.
- Clause references. AI will cite clauses from the wrong form or edition. Check every reference against the signed contract and its amendments.
- Entitlement. Whether an event gives time, money or neither is a judgement on the contract and the facts, not something to accept from a draft.
- Disputes and confidentiality. Keep contracts, without prejudice material and legal advice out of personal accounts, and ask your advisers how they want dispute material handled.

- It can draft one quickly from the facts you give it. The contract decides what the notice must contain, who it goes to, how it's served and when. Check your contract and take advice before sending anything that matters.
- Can ChatGPT review a construction contract?
- It can summarise a contract and flag clauses worth a closer look, such as payment, liability, design responsibility and termination. It isn't a legal review, and it can miss or misread amendments. Use it in a business account to prepare for a proper review, not to replace one.
- Can AI help with an extension of time claim?
- Yes, with the organising and the writing. It can put delay events in order, link them to your records and draft the narrative. It can't do the delay analysis for you or decide entitlement. Check your contract and take advice.
- Can I use AI to prepare for adjudication?
- It can help you build the chronology, summarise documents and set out the issues clearly. The Construction Act gives a right to refer disputes to adjudication and the process moves quickly, so get advice early. Check your contract and take advice, and agree with your advisers how AI is used on dispute material.
